Hapton, Lancashire -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/25/2016 -- According to recent figures released by Defra and analysed by AHDV Pork, the production of pork meat in 2015 was at a greater volume at the end of the year compared to beef – the first time this has happened since 2003. Pork production had increased by 4% over the course of 2015; emphasizing it as an increasingly popular food product with further growth expected this year. It is thought that the increased affordability of pork joints and the variety of serving methods are playing a key role in the meats continued growth. A parallel trend therefore expected is increased interest in affordable, quality pork products –as the public realise the scale of interest.
It is particularly significant that pork has exceeded beef production levels; possibly revealing new eating habits of modern consumers. For example, beef is traditionally seen as a sit-down meal, whilst pork is often incorporated into convenience dishes; with both healthy and fast-food options available. A popular example is pulled pork, which over the course of 2015 and also due in2016, saw sales across products including sandwiches, pizzas and burgers.
The Pendle Pig is a prime example of a hog roast provider, serving up pulled pork at a variety of occasions. They are aware of the rising interest in pork products and a spokesperson had this to say:
"That pork seems to overtaking beef is indicatory that the modern consumer seems to prefer a more versatile, milder meat they can dress up as they like. This is a big thing about pork; it can be served in a variety of ways to suit the modern individual. This is something we strive to provide here at The Pendle Pig."
